What is Yoga Teacher Training?

Who is Yoga Teacher Training For?

A complete Yoga Teacher Training course is usually a 200+ hour course where you are able to deepen your knowledge and understanding of yoga.  Teachers leading the course have several years (which equates to hundreds, if not thousands of hours) of experience teaching and practicing yoga.  In Bliss For EveryBody‘s training program, both trainers carry the highest level of experience credentialled by Yoga Alliance, ERYT-500 – this means they are certified by Yoga Alliance to have received over 500 hours of Yoga Training by socially credentialled and accredited training programs, then after their trainings they have each taught yoga for thousands of hours.

Bliss For EveryBody‘s information and teaching is high quality and engaging, the practices range from fun, silly, uplifting, energizing, serious, quiet, mellow, grounding and more.  The first 100 hours is where you deepen your practice, with an emphasis on expanding your knowledge for personal growth.  The second 100 hours will have you observing your understanding and knowledge then takes it a step further whether growth becomes exponential as you learn how to communicate and share your own yoga practice through teaching while working towards mastery of concepts and methodology.

Bliss For EveryBody Yoga Teacher Training is for anyone who loves yoga, anyone who has seen yoga make a difference in their life, health and/or well-being, anyone who has wanted to share their yoga experience with others, and anyone looking for a holistic approach to harmony of the mind, body and soul.   You might be trying to building a strong personal practice, interested in learning  why yoga helps you feel so good, and/or are curious in the history and theory of yoga…or I have noticed many feeling intuitively called to become a yoga teacher.   Yoga might be experiencing one or all of the above feelings and reasons, which means Yoga Teacher Training is in your future.  The most important decision for you to make right now, is to evaluate on a personal level, your desire and ability to commit…a full 200 hours in person plus additional time outside of the in-person training hours.  This certification is 4 months of attention and commitment…we will spend 19 days learning, growing, transforming plus a 2 day Graduation weekend, homework, reports, a midterm, a final exam and teaching public classes for evaluation.  It is a big commitment.

A BIGGGG, life changing, transformative, inspiring commitment.

First 100 Hours

The first 100 hours of Bliss for EveryBody’s Yoga Teacher Training is about deepening your personal practice, working through classes, lectures, information and exercises with an emphasis on expanding your knowledge for personal growth.  If you are looking to empower yourself, expand your knowledge, build a strong basis of asana practice and dive into yogic philosophy and theory, this course will deliver all of that and more.

Second 100+ Hours

Bliss for EveryBody’s Yoga Teacher Training is 200+ hours of learning to understand and master various aspects of yoga.  The second 100 hours looks at your ability to understand and communicate, then takes it a step further as you learn to teach and share your own yoga practice, your growth becomes exponential as you gain experience through various methods and techniques.  There will be many successes and failures, you will gain confidence and remain humble, some days you will have bounds of energy and others will feel endlessly challenging, and because of this there is a metamorphosis that takes place as you learn to lead, teach and share yoga.  It is not easy, but that is part of the beautiful process.  I cannot wait for you to experience the influx of ‘aha’ moments…suddenly something that once seemed challenging and impossible will become clear, available, accessible and possible.

Yoga Teacher Training is a commitment & investment

The first 100 hours are over a 2.5 month time period and is considered a big commitment.  We will meet for about 9.5 hours each Sunday (a total of 9 Sundays).

The second 100 hours is more invensive and can be completed in 9 straight days or 4.5 weekends.  This time together is an even BIGGER commitment, one that is not to be taken lightly.  The financial investment for the program is between $2,700 and $3,300.

Hybrid (Block and Workshop) Class Schedule

Hybrid scheduling means that there is a combination of how the information is delivered and how often or how long it is scheduled, this is based on amount of information per subject/topic.  Block scheduling is when you have a 1 hour period everyday of training where you will learn a subject, like math class in high school (some topics learned this way are asana, philosophy, anatomy and more) and workshop scheduling is when all of the topic’s information is delivered in 2-3 hours as if you had attended a workshop (topics that will be delivered this way are Ayurveda, the Chakra System, History, Kriyas and more).  These methods of delivery and scheduling help you learn topics that incorporate a lot of information progressively, where smaller/shorter topics are able to be covered more quickly.

Fun, Thought Provoking Homework & Assignments

Yes!  There is homework, projects and assigned readings.  The purpose of all homework and assignments is to help you work towards mastery of the information.  I have learned through teaching, training and researching that information is best absorbed if you are able to put it in your own words and have a dialogue about the information.  This is what the homework is.  If you take fairly good notes and pay attention, you will fly right through the homework, because the homework is usually just a short summary of each class (2-5 sentences outlining important points you learned regarding a subject/topic that was taught/discussed that day).  For example on the first day of training you learn the Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar), you summarize what they are, why they are important, the breathing technique associated with them and any other information you feel is pertinent to understanding and explaining/teaching them.

About Me

Through the years, I have been asked why I teach yoga, why I practice yoga, why I like and am drawn to yoga, etc. and my answers continue to revolve around the same theme.   —>>>  Because it REALLY has helped me become more aware, mindful and willing to accept life, all of the changes/turbulance and all of the monotony.

If you want the down, dirty and ultra personal version read on!  I have debilitating anxiety, depression and cPTSD (among other diagnoses).  Because of these challenges, it is really hard for me to remain in the present moment…it makes sense though, anxiety propels us into the future and depression and cPTSD drags us into the past.  Yoga is the place where I find peace and can chill-out in the present moment, because of  the mindfulness, awareness and the incorporation of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual practices.  It’s not always pretty, it’s not always graceful, it’s not always what I want…but EVERY DAY it comes through with what I need.  Then, I just happen to also really LOVE people!  It’s natural for me to want to share what I love with everyone, especially because getting to know people is one of my favorite pastimes.  Teaching to me is a gift, I think of all the wonderful experiences yoga has brought to my life (and…don’t get me wrong not all the experiences have been filled with rainbows and unicorns), but the act and process of being able to share really makes my light shine big and bright.  So each class I teach is a present, a gift (to me), at least that’s how I view it.  This act of giving and sharing isn’t for myself, but instead for everyone who shows up…when the people in my class have a breakthrough, it’s not because of me, it’s because they’ve shown up, practiced, paid attention and put in the work.  Of course the outcome of all of this is happiness, joy and delight…and maybe, just maybe…we all get a little closer to everlasting BLISS.

Testimonials

I recently completed a teacher training with Julie and I’m so appreciative for all that I learned and am able to share with others. Her knowledge goes beyond basic yoga into traditions and history. Not only does she really know her s€!+ but she is also so encouraging and inspiring.”

Julie is an amazing person, amazing teacher and mentor. I was a student in March 2018 AB YTT. I would take another program with her any day! Julie is the best teacher I have encountered with alignment and cues. For years I did many asanas incorrectly until taking the program and attending her classes.

Julie has been such a vital part of my growth as a teacher and yogini. I so highly recommend her for yoga teacher training (particularly if you would like an emphasis on preparing to teach for body diversity in your classes), or if you want a class to really hone in on your strength and empower yourself.

Challenge Yourself With Julie on FaceBook and InstaGram

Challenges are a great way to build mental and physical strength.  I started my journey with challenges doing a 5 min Plank Challenge over the course of a month (WHOA!!! That experience was intense, it was an increase of 20 seconds every other day!).  Right now the Challenge to join starts January 1, 2022.  This Challenge is all about making time for yourself, 5 min, 15 min or even up to 30 min a day, where you find space that is yours.

Yoga Teacher Training FAQs

1.  What happens if I have to miss a day of scheduled training?

200 hours of training is required for you to receive a Yoga Teacher Certificate of Completion from Bliss For EveryBody (this is also the requirement from Yoga Alliance).  I try to work with everyone as much as possible, but as with anything, there is limit.  If excessive time is missed the student will be dismissed from the training.

2.  Are books and materials included?

I try to use as many online resources as I can to save money and the environment.  Generally this will not exceed $100.

 3.  How much time should I dedicate weekly to homework?

This is a little different for everyone, but no one will be expected to spend more than 6 hours a week on their assignments and homework (this includes required readings, homework summaries and the 3 required yoga classes per week).

4.  Will I be able to teach yoga after I finish the training?

Yes!  The completion of Track 2 will certify you as a yoga teacher through Bliss For EveryBody (you will also be able to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher). Track 1 will not certify you to teach yoga, but it will give you an amazing foundation to continue your yoga journey.  If at a later time you realize you would like to become a yoga teacher you will be able to complete the requirements for Track 2 with Bliss For EveryBody.

5.  How do I know if I am ready for Yoga Teacher Training?

My favorite teacher once told me, because you are on the path of yoga you are moving in the right direction (and you have Good Karma!).  What I have learned is that there is a little leap of faith that has to be taken.  It is incredibly easy to come up with excuses…and these excuses are going to hold you back from some of the most amazing experiences and possibilities.  You have to make the decision to want it bad enough to make it work. 🙂
